The following soil properties can be determined in the laboratory:
Water content
Atterberg limits
Water update test after Enslin
Grain size distribution
Grain density
Lime content test after Scheibler
Density
Density of non-cohesive soils at loosest and densest layering
Proctordensity
Coefficient of hydraulic permeability
Constrained modulus from oedometric testing (diameter 6 cm and 28 cm)
For the determination of shear parameters the follwing experimantes can be carried out:
Unaxial compression test
Triaxial test (with specimen diameters 35, 50, 100 or 300 mm, height /diameter -ratio 1 or 2, drained or undrained conditions
Direct shear test with frame sizes 6 x 6 x 2 cm, 10 x 10 x 2 cm and 30 x 30 x 10 cm
Biaxial test with specimen size 12 x 10 x 4 cm
For investigations of the soil behaviour under cyclic and dynamic loading
Triaxial tests with vertical cyclic loading, optionally with cycles of lateral stress, drained or undrained conditions
Resonant Column Test with specimen diameter 100 or 150 mm and height-diameter-ratio 2 or 3
Measurement of wave velocities during resonant column tests or triaxial tests with piezoelectrical Elements (i.e. Bender Elements) in vertical and horizontal direction
Possible Experiments on partially saturated soils:
Determination of the Soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) with different methods (Hanging water column, Axis Translation Technique)
Oedometertests, Direct shear tests, Triaxial tests, Resonant Column Test with control of water content or suction
