Together with Aljoscha Ganal and Oliver Reul from Universität Kassel, we proposed a concept with which the system permeability and the system stiffness of the heterogeneous tertiary Frankfurt clay layers taking into account embedded lime stone banks and sand layers can be realistically modelled in 3D coupled pore pressure-displacement analyses with the finite element method (3D-FEA).
A comprehensive verification of the proposed approach was successfully delivered by coupled 3D-FEA simulations of the long-term settlements of three structures (Frankfurt high-rise buildings) founded in the Frankfurt formations, which showed a very good alignment with in-situ measurements. This provides a model for the tertiary soils in Frankfurt am Main that can be used to predict the long-term load-bearing behavior of foundations.
