In a new paper we dive into the pitfalls of overshooting effects in element tests and finite element simulations with advanced constitutive models.
Together with Jose Duque from Universidad de la Costa (Colombia) and David Mašín from Charles University (Prague), we investigate the overshooting effects associated with advanced constitutive models. Our journey unveils the limitations of these models under cyclic loading, shedding light on critical insights for element tests and finite-element simulations. Through back calculations of a shallow foundation under cyclic loading, we analyze the influence of initialization of state variables, material parameters and different loading paths. We highlight the complexities and implications for engineering simulations, and point the way to more accurate modeling in the future!
