On 03.12.2013, Prof. Anastasios Sextos from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) gave a presentation on "the Finite Element model updating and Structural Health Monitoring as a tool for assessing the seismic performance of major bridges".
Within this lecture, the continuous/staged monitoring of the several bridges in Greece in free fields as well as the structural elements are introduced. In addition, the innovative research on soil-structure interaction for the bridges where the data monitored before construction stage was introduced. Different analytical and numerical approaches validation were presented to evaluate the behavior of the structural elements subjected to seismic and lateral loading dealing with soil interaction.
